Local vittles
Editor: I think these here locavores is on to somethin'! Why, after I read the paper this mornin', I swallered down a big 'ol Krispy Kreme slathered in Duke's Mayonnaise and Texas Pete, follered up with a cold Cheerwine.
Nothin' like eatin' local!Robert Thompson

I cut this out a few days ago and put it on my desk. Oh Cheerwine...
I actually got more of a hankerin' for Duke's mayonnaise. I ain't figured me out how to make my own just yet.
OK, I seriously made use of all of these things to stave off my junk food cravings and Diet Coke addiction when I did my first eat local challenge a couple of years ago. Except the Duke's mayo. That stuff is nasty. Jessica: making mayo is not hard, but where will you get local oil? :-)
I beg to differ on the ease of making mayo - but that is very likely just me and my sad skills. I did try to substitute olive oil and regular vinegar vs. white wine vin. Maybe that was my downfall?
Oil is one of my non-local staples along with vinegar, salt, and the such that make pickling and canning possible.
